29th Conference of the Working Group Sustainability / Soil Protection of the Working Community of the Danube Regions on 27.+28.09.2022
Integrated Land use Systems for multifunctional Landscapes
Best Practice for Soil Deal for Europe
Date: 27th and 28th of September 2022
Place: Tulln
Global change is increasingly perturbing major earth-system processes such as climate change, biosphere integrity, the biogeochemical cycles of nitrogen and phosphorus, and land-system change. There is evidence that several fundamental earth-system processes have been exceeding thresholds indicating a risk that our planet could drive to a much less comfortable state.
The increase in world population and unsustainable use of resources are putting increasing pressure on soils. Competing demands for soil services such as the production of food, feed, renewable materials and energy, infrastructure, or recreation, and related soil degradation require proper land use planning and innovative solutions.
This conference is dedicated to explore options for the implementation of integrated, multifunctional land use systems at landscape and regional level. Contributions should address action fields and solutions for restoring soil and ecosystem health and mitigating climate change, while producing sufficient food and feed without further enhancing the biogeochemical the cycles of nitrogen and phosphorus. As reliable soil information is essential for developing soil health policies, this conference welcomes also presentations on mapping of relevant soil health criteria and soil services, as well as soil monitoring data documenting temporal changes. We welcome oral and poster contributions from all Danube countries as well as from abroad from scientists, professionals and students.
