Field day "Drought-tolerant alternatives: panic millet - foxtail millet - sorghum" on 22.09.2023 in Poysbrunn, Triftberg

Invitation to field day:

Drought-tolerant alternatives

Millet - Foxtail millet - Sorghum

  • Presentation of millet species and varieties with own trial results
  • Root contribution to humus formation
  • Root exposure in profile pit

In the course of the Interreg project "Carbon Farming CE" (CE0100255), millet species and varieties are being compared in a field trial with regard to carbon and growth parameters. Like maize, millet is a C4 crop, but more drought-tolerant, which increases yield security in the face of increasing extreme weather fluctuations and longer dry periods. Diverse crop rotations and the addition of C4 plants in crop rotations also make sense from the point of view of humus enrichment and carbon storage in the soil, as new studies show. On the field day, the cultivated varieties and species will be portrayed, own and new research results will be presented and special attention will be paid to the root growth of selected varieties in a root pit. We cordially invite you to join in the discussion and research!
