Soil of the year 2009

After brown forest soil with a model soil from the Waldviertel in the year 2008, lime wetlands are the soil of the year 2009. Lime wetlands are ground water soils from marine sedimentation containing lime and influenced by the tide. They occur on a worldwide scale in coastal areas of the sea, shaped by the tides, as well as in the area of river mouths, which were only embanked in the course of the past centuries.

Lime wetlands are part of the most productive sites of fields. At the same time, their specification allows for interesting conclusions concerning an earlier use under different climatic conditions (archive function).

You will find further information on lime wetlands in the folder below, which you can download as a pdf file.
