Sweet Hats' Soil Activities! - June 2009

In the first Lower Austrian member region of the European Land and Soil Alliance, in the area of the environmental association of Lilienfeld, and in the municipality of Lichtenegg (in the district of Wiener Neustadt) currently the first municipal “soil activity concepts” are being developed.

The chairman of the environmental association of Lilienfeld, Michael Singraber, who is at the same time mayor and baker of the municipality of Kaumberg, surprised his counterpart Franz Rennhofer, member of the provincial parliament and mayor of Lichtenegg (in the center) with a crispy bread hat. Also Christian Steiner, Grad. Eng. (chairman of the European Land and Soil Alliance, on the left) and Dr. Erwin Szlezak (Department of Rural Development, responsible for soil protection, on the right) were given an edible hat from the collection of the baker.

The development of the Soil Alliance in Lower Austria is continually proceeding. On June 10, in Lower Austria there are 53 members to the soil alliance: 48 municipalities and further five associated members. Thus Lower Austria represents well over half of all partners of the European Land and Soil Alliance!
